Dress Code

All students will dress in a manner that fosters a professional learning environment and is safe, inoffensive to the AISL community, and respectful to the host country. While we appreciate the role that dress has to play in expressing personalities, a respectful balance must be sought. If there are violations of the spirit of the dress code, then the student will be asked to modify his or her dress.

Clothes, make-up, hairstyles, jewelry and other elements of personal appearance should be neat, safe and in good taste (inoffensive). Immodest attire is not permitted. Clothing or jewelry and items which are obscene, suggestive or which promote or refer to illegal drugs or substance abuse are unacceptable.

Appropriate footwear must be worn at all times for safety and should not impede safe movement around the school campus. Flip-flops are associated with foot injuries and distracting noise and should not be worn to school.  For health reasons, students are encouraged to wear caps during break times and during physical education classes. Hats or caps may not be worn indoors.

Here are some additional guidelines to add clarity to the statements above:
  • Skirts or shorts must be knee length.
  • Straps on blouses or shirts must be at least 5cm in width.  Strapless clothing is not permitted nor are exposed bra straps.
  • Spandex or similar skin-tight bottoms must be covered by shorts or skirts of acceptable length.  Coverage by long shirts or sweaters is not sufficient.
  • No underwear, cleavage, or midriff should be exposed.
  • Clothing must be clean and free of holes.
