The Leopards Chapter of the National Honor Society will host an induction ceremony for its newest members on 5 March at 19:00 in the Palm Pavilion. This is a great celebration of our top academic students. All members of the community are encouraged to attend and bring their children.

Below is an excerpt from the Secondary Parent/Student Handbook outlining the requirements for a candidate to be inducted into NHS.

The National Honor Society is an honorary organization based in the United States that recognizes students for outstanding achievement in scholarship, character, service and leadership.  The organization first recognized the Leopards Chapter at the American International School of Lusaka in 2007.

Eligibility for membership starts at the end of Semester I of Grade 10, but is based on cumulative achievement from Semester I of Grade 9.  Students must have attended a minimum of one semester at AISL to be considered for membership, with the exception of students already elected to the National Honor Society at their previous school.

Invitation to the Leopards Chapter is made to a student who satisfies the following criteria:
  • Point Totals:  In each semester of Grades 9 and 10 prospective candidates must have achieved 47 points (of a maximum of 56 points) in each semester, or an average of 47 points per semester.  In Grades 11 and 12 the point total requirement becomes 40 points of a maximum of 49. For students entering AISL in Grades 10 or 11, their previous GPA’s for each year of previous study must be a minimum of 3.5.*
  • Effort Average:  No effort grade below 4.
  • Grade Quality: All grades above 3 (on the 7 point scale) are required for membership.
  • CAS Opportunities: Students must exhibit satisfactory participation in CAS opportunities.
  • Faculty Evaluation: Students who qualify on the basis of point totals, effort average and grade quality are evaluated by the NHS Faculty Advisory Council pursuant to input received from AISL teachers.  Any student found lacking in terms of Character, Service or Leadership will not be offered an invitation to membership.
  • Pre-Induction Essay: A student who accepts an invitation to membership in the  Leopards Chapter must submit an essay of approximately 500 words on the subject of one of the four pillars of the National Honor Society:  Scholarship, Character, Service and Leadership.
