Important Information about AISL's Reopening on 16 January

14/1/2018

Dear Parents,

I hope that this email finds you well. I have really appreciated everyone's patience and support as we worked to gain approval for reopening the school. As stated in yesterday's email to the community, we will fully reopen on Tuesday, 16 January, as originally scheduled.

Due to the cholera outbreak, we have put several precautions in place that will have a direct effect on our AISL community:
  • First and foremost, if your child shows any sign of illness, please keep him/her at home for the day. Feel free to consult with our school nurse, Jennifer Anunsacion (janunsacion@aislusaka.org), if you have any questions.
  • Everyone will be required to visit one of our sanitation stations before entering campus on foot from the parking areas/bus drop-offs. These stations will have hand sanitizer and sanitizing foot mats. They will be located near the Admin Office, Primary School Tuck Shop, Primary School Waiting Hut, Secondary School Waiting Hut, PAC walkway, and the entrance to the gym patio. Please remind your children to report to one of these stations when they arrive on campus. Parents who leave their cars to enter campus must also proceed directly to one of these stations.
  • The Tuck Shops will be closed for at least the first week. Although our Tuck Shop has always offered great food and a clean environment, food is one of the primary transmission routes of cholera so, out of an abundance of caution, the Tuck Shops will be closed and we ask that students bring their own snacks and lunches to school.
  • We will prohibit the sharing of food between students, including events such as class birthday parties, bakes sales, etc.
  • The Friday Market on 19 January will be cancelled.
  • During the first day back, all students will receive an orientation to the transmission, prevention, and treatment of cholera. This will emphasize the importance of good hygiene and will provide students with an overview of protective measures we have put in place.
  • I will host two information sessions for those parents who wish to learn more about the precautionary measures we have taken. They will be held in the Protea Room at 18:00 on 15 January and 07:30 on 16 January. Please feel free to attend.
  • The Parent Welcome Back Coffee Morning will be postponed until Wednesday, 24 January at 07:30 on the lawn in front of the library. Please come to welcome new parents, visit old friends, make new friends, and learn a little bit about the PTA's plans for this semester.
  • The New Student/Parent Orientations will take place as scheduled on 15 January. The Primary School session will take begin at 08:30 in the Protea Room. The Secondary School session will begin at 10:00 in the Protea Room.
Although we are certainly off to an unconventional start, I am thrilled that we are able to reopen on schedule and am looking forward to a great semester.

Best regards,

Russ Menard
