To Consider: A Poem How Joy Works You could not stop it if you tried-- how this blessing begins to sing every time it sees your face, how it turns itself in wonder merely at the mention of your name. It is simply how joy works, going out to you when you least expect, running up to meet you when you had not thought to ask. — Jan Richardson Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend. AISL is hosting ZAMMUN (Model United Nations) this weekend for over 200 delegates from schools all over Lusaka. This year’s theme is Promoting Cyber Security and the delegates are set for an intense day of respectful debate. Creativity and innovation has been happening in Grade 6 and 7 band classes at AISL. Students have been exploring the musical elements of Form and Texture through experimental learning in the world of music technology. They worked in small groups to compose music soundtracks for their original video games. Students used tools including GarageBand, midi controllers, iMovie, Live Loops, mp3 downloads, audio recordings and live instruments to create some very interesting original soundtracks. Composing their own music was very enjoyable, and something new and exciting to experience.

12:20 - 13:10hrs Palm Pavilion Grade 12 student, Darya, has won the 2023-2024 award that seeks a student from an AISA school who:
Darya has been involved with international organizations throughout her high school years. On her own initiation, Darya joined both the Letters to Strangers non-profit organization and the School to School International initiative. She became a member of Letters to Strangers in 10th grade (and is still an active member now) and she intends to continue to volunteer when she enters college. The Letters to Strangers NGO strives to advocate for mental healthcare for young people, particularly suicide prevention. Darya’s role is as an Advocate and Grant Writer, but she also wrote the Advocacy Action Guide that is used by advocates around the world. School to School International focuses on change-making among international youth collaborators. For both organizations, Darya has been reviewing and editing educational policies and programs, applying for financial grants, and conducting budget reviews. Remarkably, Darya joined School to School International’s Zambian office when she was in the country on vacation, prior to moving to Zambia. She spent three weeks volunteering full-time for this NGO. Whilst in Zambia, Darya has also been volunteering at the University Teaching Hospital in Lusaka on the pediatric sickle cell and cancer ward. |
