As we approach summer, something that is often put on the back burner by teenagers is reading. Great gains that are made during the school year can be lost very quickly when literacy is ignored for an extended length of time. It is important to keep this up with the practice of reading. Parents play a critical role in encouraging literacy. In my search for strategies to keep reading alive during the summer vacation, I came across this website. While the site is geared for primary aged students, I found points 1-7 to have the most realistic strategies for teenagers over other sites suggesting less practical or motivational strategies for adolescents. I would like to suggest that point #2 is perhaps the most important. Have great reading this summer!
The Leopard's Tale is our main medium to keep our families informed on such things as the day to day happenings on campus, after school activities, summaries of any arts and sports events, helpful resources, and important dates and reminders.
