As you may recall, we had to postpone our visit from Zimbabwean spoken word / performing artist Samm Farai due to political issues in Zimbabwe last semester. We are thrilled to have him rebooked and coming soon!

Mr. Farai, also known as Comrade Fatso, is a renowned stand-up comedian, poet, song-writer, and is also the producer of the satirical news show Zambezi News (a bit like The Daily Show). He was recognized as the 2016 Comedian of the Year at the African Entertainment Awards (USA) & was chosen as one of the Top 60 Emerging Young African Democracy Leaders at the 2015 World Movement for Democracy Awards (USA).

During the week of February 5-9, Mr. Farai will work with our secondary students, exploring using humor as a weapon, writing political satire, sharpening public speaking skills, and more. We will kick off the  week with two assemblies on Monday, 5 February- one for middle school students (gr6-8) and one for secondary students (gr9-12). Mr. Farai will help middle school students prepare for their Coffee House on Wednesday, 7 February (08:30-09:30) in the Zone. On the night of Friday, 9 February, Mr. Farai will join upper secondary students (Grades 9-12 only) for our Coffee House Night in the library (19.00-21.00 free!).
