In an effort to facilitate some of our students’ speech, physio and occupational therapy needs, we have arranged for four therapists to hold office hours on campus on a weekly basis. This will allow the students to have their sessions during the school day, which we hope will be more convenient for students and parents. Please note that these therapists are not AISL employees and are just using our space to provide services. All appointments and payment must be managed directly with the therapists. See below for brief biographies and contact details. Speech Therapists
Fadeela Saadi has been working with AISL since January 2011. She is a qualified Speech and Language Pathologist with more than twenty years of experience. Her degree is from the University of Queensland in Australia. She is also an AISL parent with two children currently at the school and one who recently graduated. She works with children in all areas of Speech and Language Pathology, e.g. expressive language, receptive language, articulation, phonology, literacy skills, stuttering, and delayed language development. She is at AISL on Tuesday mornings and also has a clinic outside of school for children who require more than one session in the week. This clinic is open to both adults and children. Contact: [email protected] Lauren Svymbersky is a certified Speech and Language Pathologist with a Master’s Degree from Northern Illinois University in the USA. She has worked in hospitals and rehabilitation centers on feeding and swallowing disorders but the bulk of her work experience has been in schools. She works in Zambia at Special Hope Network as the Director of Education and also conducts private speech therapy for children with a variety of speech and language disorders. Lauren is currently out of the country for professional development and will be taking appointments from May. The therapy sessions will begin upon her return. If you believe your child will benefit from an evaluation, please contact Lauren. Contact: [email protected] Occupational Therapist Rebecca Barker was born in Zimbabwe and moved to Zambia in 2004. She is one of four occupational therapists scattered across the country. Her degree is from the University of Cape Town. She will be offering group and individual sessions at AISL on Thursday mornings from 07:30- 11:00 with the hope to expand her hours in the future. Contact: [email protected] Physio Therapist Inger Gretland earned her BSc Physiotherapy at Oslo University College in 1998. She is specialized in pediatric physiotherapy and has worked in that field in Norway and Zambia since 1999. She is currently working out of Dynamic Physical Therapy but can offer sessions at school for children with coordination difficulties, core instability, etc., as well as sports related problems and rehabilitation after injuries. She can be on campus on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.
