If you walk through the Secondary Gate every morning, you’ll probably recognize Ms. Smith welcoming the students with joy and excitement! But her contribution to our community has been far more than that. Ms. Smith has been working full-time here at AISL for 17 years and she wears multiple hats. She’s our secondary counselor, someone who takes care of students and the faculty’s social and emotional health. She’s the school’s Designated Child Safeguarding lead, which she is immensely passionate about. Additionally, Ms. Smith is also the Duke of Edinburgh leader of our school. Despite her many titles, Ms. Smith simply enjoys working with children and wishes to advocate for them. She wants to emphasize that everyone has a role to play in keeping a child safe! Furthermore, Ms. Smith wants every person to see the importance of mental health and view it as a real problem we’re facing currently, rather than only blaming it on COVID.
During her free time, Ms. Smith enjoys activities such as cycling, step aerobics, and spending time with her family. As someone who grew up in Apartheid South Africa, Ms. Smith wasn’t allowed to speak up for herself and the problems existing at the time. So, thinking back, an advice that she would like to give to herself and to us fellow students is to, “stand up for what you believe in, even if that's not necessarily the way you were raised”.

Fun Fact: Ms. Smith would love to own a pink Tuk Tuk with flowers on it! If you would like to have someone assist you during your workouts, Ms. Smith is the person! She is a fully trained personal trainer and is also a fully qualified pilates trainer as well.
