Here are some ideas about the SOI in the MYP:
  • The SOI or Statement of Inquiry drives a subject unit in the MYP.
  • It is linked to inquiry questions.
  • It is the big idea of a unit.
  • All learning comes back to this idea.
  • The learning experiences, formatives and summatives are all directly linked to the SOI.
  • The SOI contains the key concept and the related concepts and global context.
  • The SOI is transferable and in student friendly language.

In Ms Dana's Design 6, 7, and 8 classes this week, students were introduced to the key concept, related concepts and global context for the next unit in Design.  Students were asked to formulate a Statement of inquiry in groups using the elements of the SOI that they had been introduced to.

Our students displayed the following ATL skills during this process.

Thinking: recognise and evaluate propositions
Social: listen actively to others perspectives and ideas
Communication: negotiating ideas and knowledge with peers
Self Management: demonstrate perseverance and persistence
Research: make connections between various forms of information

Students came up with fantastic nearly usable Statements of Inquiry which are currently displayed in the classroom. Please feel free to come in and see them! Ms. Dana is very proud of their work.
