Don’t miss this year’s primary school play, Alice in Wonderland. Shows are this week at 14:30 on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 May. Our primary-actors have been working very hard on this production since January. Please come celebrate and honor their hard work. Many thanks to our creative team for making this happen.

We are currently in the process of updating parent and student records through our Student Information System called OpenApply. OpenApply helps us to streamline and centralize our records so you will only have to go to one place to check on or update your information. Tomorrow, you will receive an email from OpenApply asking you to log into your account and to update the information there. If you don’t receive it, please check your junk/spam folder. If it’s not there, then please contact info@aislusaka.org.
Once you have logged in, you will be happy to see that most of the form will already be populated with the information that we have on record. Kindly go through this information and edit/update anything that has changed, is inaccurate, or is blank. This will take less than five minutes. One new element that you will see is that we are asking for the registration/license plate numbers of your vehicles that have AISL parking stickers. This will support an upcoming upgrade of our vehicle access systems in order to improve security on campus. I appreciate your help in ensuring that we have the most up to date information for you and your children. Please find all remaining secondary events and important dates below:

Thank you to all of the families who attended the ELC Celebration of Learning last Friday. The students were very excited to share their stories, paintings, songs, and even a puppet show. Congratulations to all of our risk-takers!
As part of the Grade 2 unit of inquiry, 'Sharing the planet', some students in Ms. Anne-Marie's class have decided to raise money for Game Rangers International by selling their crafts at the Friday market as a way to protect our planet. We encourage families to please support their initiative by visiting their stand at the market this week. This past Tuesday Mr. Tony Potts, Ms. Jill Daley, and Ms. Terry Maguire shared a wide range of carefully selected resources for holiday fun & enrichment for students across all grade levels. Many of the activities on these guides could be shared as a family.
In case you missed it, please bookmark these resources:If you have ideas for additional content for either of these guides, please let us know! We want them to serve the needs of our community. The log-in is the same as for our entire virtual library system - and the Parent Portal. All students know the log-in so please ask one if you've forgotten it! Student success in the Diploma Programme depends on successfully writing Internal Assessments (IA's) and External Assessments. Internal Assessments count for up to 35% of the student's total IB grade and include Math Investigations, Language and Literature Written Tasks, and Economics Commentaries, among others. External Assessments are the "papers" or exams that students take in May. Once students submit the IA's to the IB's assessment website, and once they finish writing their External Assessment papers in May, what happens to them? Thousands of external examiners from around the world grade the papers that are sent to them electronically and downloaded from the IB's websites. External Examiners undergo extensive training from the IB in order to be qualified to mark these assessments. Here at AISL, we are lucky enough to have six external examiners on staff. Jeff Redman examines the Theatre Research Presentation Internal Assessment. Becky Oliver examines the Higher Level (HL) Literature Individual Oral Commentary (IOC) and the HL Literature Paper 2. Michael Ryan is an examiner for HL Literature Paper 1 , and the HL and SL Literature Written Assignment. Ken Hoffman examines History Extended Essays. Lionel Honnorat is an examiner for French Ab initio Paper 1 and Florence Bouillot examines French B HL Paper 2. In addition, Kevin Frederick is a co-author of a IB Mathematics Higher Level textbook. Because of their training and support from the IB, these teachers are highly qualified instructors. Being an examiner for the IB also means that these staff members can share best practices from their subject area directly with our students! |
