Both new and returning families are often confused about the different online platforms that are used at the American International School of Lusaka. On the Parent Portal (password protected) there is a wealth of information including a summary of the four main systems, how they are used, what they are used for and how to access. There's also a lot more useful information to find on the Parent Portal - please check it out!
One of the main platforms we use in Primary is Seesaw, an app that helps students and teachers document, share and celebrate the learning in the classroom with parents. One of the questions we often are asked is 'how do we manage notifications?' Basically, you are in control of how often you're notified about new information in Seesaw. Here are your options in the Seesaw Family account:
And remember, if you need any more help or support regarding Seesaw, please don't hesitate to contact our very own IT Teacher and Seesaw ambassador, Mr. Frank Louw.
Advisory
The secondary staff are really excited about the new advisory program which embodies the IB mission statement: The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right. We are getting to know our advisees and exploring fun and meaningful ideas and activities in order to grow IB learners. Grade 10 Personal Project I hope Grade 10 have been having a great time pursuing their passions in the form of Personal Project over the break. They will be meeting with their supervisors in the next week or two and finalising goals. Some students have been reassigned new supervisors. Obviously this had to happen with teachers leaving and I am confident that there will be minimal disruption. Contact me If you would like to meet with me about anything concerning the MYP program, please email me iturner@aislusaka.org or pop in – I might be in my office which is in the new secondary office area. When I am not teaching Language and Literature, I am in advisory or in classrooms collaborating. But Mache will always know where I am. I look forward to meeting parents at the MYP information session on the 4 September! Ingrid Turner
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is in it's 50 year! During the next month in the PYP, MYP and DP programs the teachers will be looking for ways to showcase the learning of students that connect to five themes; Education and Literacy, Social Justice and Equality, Heath and Nutrition, Citizenship and Responsibility, and Environment and Humanity. There will be a culminating Kindergarten to Grade 12 assembly on September 28th to showcase our learning. Please view the video below to see how an IB education has inspired previous students.
