Another great & epic weekend coming up. Our U19 Boys and Girls Teams will be playing this Friday and Saturday for the ISAZ National Championship trophy. Our U12 Team will be playing at Rhodes Park School this Saturday for the ISAZ U12 Trophy!
Wishing all our teams the best this weekend! Last night, the National Honor Society hosted its annual inductee ceremony for its newest members. A beautiful ceremony was highlighted by impressive speeches from current members Crystal, Tayla, Salina, Munanga, Tora, Bilngwe, Emma, Michela, and Kaila concerning the theme of transitions and the qualities of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Also a very special thanks goes to our impressive guest speaker, Dr. Vernon Mwaanga, for sharing some of his life experiences as a top world diplomat and what he has learned from these with the students, staff, and audience members.
Congrats to all of our newest NHS members for exemplifying positive leadership and the hard work that earned you this prestigious position. The 2017 inductees are: Mohamed A., Davina B., Maddy B., Kesia D., Ishaan D., Mbiko M., Teyah P., Noa Q., Freja S., Johanna B., Gabi K., Aryan M., Jessica V., Zazy W., and Omer M.
Congrats to all of our tenth grade students who are now able to relax after presenting their MYP Personal Projects at today's expo. It was impressive seeing the heart that our kids have put into months and months of work that culminated in their projects. Well done to everyone!
What I am excited about this week…
1. Lower Primary Art Exhibit! Thank you to our Kindergarten and Grade 1 & 2 students, whose wonderful artwork has been exhibited in the PAC Gallery all week. Many thanks also to their excellent teacher, Mr. Mulangala. 2. Personal Project Expo! All Grade 10 students are required to conduct a Personal Project as the culmination of their work in the IB Middle Years Program (Grades 6‐10). This project allows them to spend all year delving deeply into something about which they are passionate. In the past, we have had some truly impressive projects. I expect the same this year when our Grade 10 students display their projects at the Personal Project Expo on Friday, March 10 from 1300‐1500 on the lawn in front of the library. Please come join us for this exciting showcase of student learning. Thank you to Ms. Bowin for coordinating AISL’s Personal Project program. 3. IB DP Theatre Night! Bravo! to the IB DP Theatre Arts students who presented their final Solo Theatre Projects on Tuesday, March 7. This was a great showcase for our very talented scholar‐actors. The students were required to create a performance that integrated some of the unique creative aspects of a selected theatre practitioner. The results were intense and thought‐provoking. Some scholar‐actors even explored spaces other than the theater for their performance: Tora Turner’s performance used the secondary parking lot as her stage! Thank you to Mr. Redman for guiding these talented students. 4. Triathlon! Thank you to the planners of this year’s Triathlon. Once again it was a smashing success. This is a wonderful community activity and is one of the highlights of the school calendar. It is also an important fundraiser for the Torpedoes. Many thanks to all who participated in the event and helped support the Torpedoes. Secondary Principal, Ty Smeins, will be giving a presentation on Adolescents, Technology Use, and Sleep Deprivation: Dangers and Realities. Ty welcomes parents to a discussion about what students are doing on social media and on their phones as well as what is keeping them from getting a full night’s sleep. Please join him next Tuesday morning at 7:30 in the Protea Room.
Congratulations to the Grade 3 students and teachers who demonstrated their skills in the Performing Arts assembly last week. They choreographed original dances, wrote original plays and sang a beautiful song with flair and confidence. In their inquiry unit about “Sharing the Planet,” students learned that water is a finite resource and is essential to life through performing arts, visual arts, language, mathematics, science and social studies. This unit demonstrated the transdisciplinary approach we take at AISL. The playful, yet thoughtful, performance by the third graders reminded us that we all need to protect our water sources and use water responsibly. They inspired us with great suggestions on how
we can be conscientious, environmental stewards. Dear Parents,
Every year, a confidential enrollment survey is sent out to the community to check whether families are either planning to stay for the next school year, are unsure of their plans or will be leaving. Information from this survey will be used by the school to prepare for the new year in August 2018. A survey was emailed to all families earlier this week. Kindly ensure that you _ill it out by Wednesday 15th, March 2017. Please email admissions@aislusaka.org if you did not receive this survey. Many thanks for your help with this. Kind Regards, Natasha Chalikulima Admissions / Communications Manager |
